Gore doesn’t quite announce
Posted by Matt Clifford on February 26th, 2007
Well, Al Gore got his Oscar (If he won the Nobel too he’d be only the second person - after George Bernard Shaw - to win both). He also teased the audience by pretending to announce his candicacy for 2008 in a skit with Leonardo DiCaprio. The betting markets in his winning the Democratic nomination shot up following the news, but it really looks like he might be having too much fun to think about the White House . . .

I think I agree, Gore won’t run this time around, however, his popularity should continue to rise, andwe may be seeing Gore having another go in 2016.
It’s a good point that’s often missed that many of the candidates this time around (with the obvious exception of John McCain) may all be important players in 2012 and 2016. Gore will be 68, but that is younger than Reagan was when he entered the White House. Obama will be 55, which in presidential terms is still very young . . .
Gore would be incredibly stupid to run now, and I hope he doesn’t. He has so much more of an opportunity to have an impact in the position he’s in now, and he risks losing absolutely everything in a Presidential campaign. He’s managed to make himself look above politics now, and I really hope he stays in that position. I admire Al Gore, but I worry he’ll leap at the chance and see everything he’s worked for slip away. But maybe I’m just too pessimistic.
He’s hardly a lovable stand-up comedian now, but Gore showing something of the sense of humour and, dare i say it, personality that he appears to have found might have helped him in 2000. Still, few Hollywood stars are more wooden than Leonardo DiCaprio, so that probably helped. Thanks for the link.
